This adorable perching hat is the perfect little pick-me-up for Fall!
Blocked from a lovely, lightweight vintage felt hat body on a custom hat block based on a 1940's-era block, this little hat has a bit of retro flair that also works well with modern ensembles. Its embellishment is simple and elegant, a twisted band of hand-cut felt strands and silver leather cording that ends in a generous tassel. The hat is finished inside with a wide, matching petersham cotton ribbon.
It is designed to perch to one side and should fit a range of head sizes both because of this perch, and because the brim is meant to sit low on the wearer's head. I can wear this one with my 23-1/4 inch head but it also fits my daughter's 22-1/2 inch head circumference well.

I like a hat in your shop but would prefer it had a different trim. Can you swap out the trim on an existing hat for me?
In some cases I can do this and in some cases I can't. Please don't hesitate to ask and we can discuss it!
How do I care for and store my new hat?
I'm so glad you asked! Avoid wearing a straw hat in wet weather because it will quickly lose its shape in the rain. You may also find that some dyed straws' colors will run when wet.
Avoid getting fabric trims like silk flowers, ribbon ornaments and veils wet as these can still look droopy even after they dry again.
If a felt hat becomes wet, stuff it loosely with tissue before allowing it to dry. If your felt looks dull or dusty, you can use a bristle brush to brush up the nap again.
To store, stuff your hat loosely with tissue paper to hold its shape, and put it in its hat box away from dust and sunlight. Never hang a hat or keep it on a stand or its shape could become distorted over time.
