This mini menswear-style hat hearkens back to the 1940's--and is shaped on a block from that era--but could look like a steam-punkish riding hat, too, depending on what you wear it with. It is crafted from a lovely velour felt in a neutral mushroom-y sort of brown and trimmed with a wide, vintage, cream-on-black polka dot rayon ribbon. The hand-shaped brim is stitched on in the typical way in front, but then lifts free from the crown and up into two crossed pieces in the back, exposing a little triangle of the polka-dot ribbon. It is finished inside with a black petersham ribbon.
This perching hat should fit most head sizes. It is secured to the head with a bandeau made of two pieces of the same velour felt joined with an elastic loop, rendering it adjustable and astonishingly comfortable.

I'm so glad you asked! Avoid wearing a straw hat in wet weather because it will quickly lose its shape in the rain. You may also find that some dyed straws' colors will run when wet.
Avoid getting fabric trims like silk flowers, ribbon ornaments and veils wet as these can still look droopy even after they dry again.
If a felt hat becomes wet, stuff it loosely with tissue before allowing it to dry. If your felt looks dull or dusty, you can use a bristle brush to brush up the nap again.
To store, stuff your hat loosely with tissue paper to hold its shape, and put it in its hat box away from dust and sunlight. Never hang a hat or keep it on a stand or its shape could become distorted over time.
