Make an entrance at Derby party, wedding or other warm weather soireé in this over-the-top headpiece!
The black parasisal straw is hand-sculpted into dramatic, organic curves further accented by a twisting garland of pale blue silk abaca. At the back of the hat, the same silk abaca creates a large, loose "bow." Shiny, faceted butterflies made from sparkly sequin film are scattered over the whole piece. I've stitched the hat to a black teardrop-shaped sinamay straw base and attached it to a velvet ribbon wrapped headband with a small comb to secure it to the head. Fabulous!

I'm so glad you asked! Avoid wearing a straw hat in wet weather because it will quickly lose its shape in the rain. You may also find that some dyed straws' colors will run when wet.
Avoid getting fabric trims like silk flowers, ribbon ornaments and veils wet as these can still look droopy even after they dry again.
If a felt hat becomes wet, stuff it loosely with tissue before allowing it to dry. If your felt looks dull or dusty, you can use a bristle brush to brush up the nap again.
To store, stuff your hat loosely with tissue paper to hold its shape, and put it in its hat box away from dust and sunlight. Never hang a hat or keep it on a stand or its shape could become distorted over time.
